Sabudana Khichadi

Being a Brahmin, and that too born and brought up in Sadashiv Peth, Pune-30, it is always difficult to live upto that mark unless you know the recipe of Sabudana Khichadi. A traditional Maharashtrian breakfast, Sabudana Khichadi is not that hard to prepare.

Here's how you do it...

You need :

2 cups of White Sabudana ( enough for 3 people)

5 tbsp shengdana (peanut) powder

1 boiled potato

1/2 tbsp cumin seeds (Jeera)

1/2 lemon slice

2 tsp ghee

2 green chillies cut in small

Sugar and Salt to taste (you can also add red chilli powder if you want it more spicy)

Grated wet coconut and coriander to garnish

Procedure : Wash twice and drain not fully the sabudana for an entire night. After 7-8 hours, scatter the sabudana so that it does not stick to each other. Add sugar, salt, peanut powder, red chilli powder if required and mix all contents well.
Heat a kadai and add 2 tsp ghee. As soon as the ghee melts, add cumin seeds and green chillies. You are bound to get a nice aroma. Once the cumin seeds start turning brown, add chopped potato and stir well.
When the potato starts turning golden brown, add the sabudana mixture, mix the entire thing well and keep closed for about 3 minutes (Note: keep your gas on sim throughout). Add salt if required. Pinch the lemon slice on top and give a final stir.

Top it up with grated wet coconut and coriander. Your morning breakfast is ready. Tastes best with Khamang Kaakdi.
